Christmas Ornament Crafts Ideas

By: Magda Milenash on 17/11/2009

Christmas is so inspirational when it comes to handcrafts. There are so many symbols and characters associated with this Holiday that it would be a pity not to take them over in our crafting projects. For those who see crafting as a relaxing and pleasant activity, Christmas is the perfect time to start some ingenious projects. Christmas ornament crafts are easy to perform and the results can be really astonishing, even though the materials we use are ordinary stuff at everyone's hands within their day-by-day life.

We gathered below some ideas of simple crafting projects you can pursue for embellishing your house this Christmas.

One of the easiest and most cost-effective Christmas ornament crafts is making gifts decorations. Grab the old boxes you do not need anymore. They can be of various sizes and shapes, the more diverse, the better they will look. Go to the closest stationary shop or supermarket and buy wrapping paper of all kinds: sparkling, mono-colored, with simple patterns, golden and silver, with bears, reindeers or Santa Clauses. Then wrap the boxes you have collected and attach to them a thread. Hang them all over the house, above the doors, to the windows or display them under the Christmas tree.

Santa Claus is the host of the Holiday and therefore he is a must-do in all Christmas ornament crafts. Here is one of the simplest ways to bring Santa to life. Outline his face on a piece of white cardboard and then cut it. Draw his eyes, nose and mouth and add some red blush in his cheeks. Color his hat in red and then go for a finishing touch gluing flocks of cotton on the hat's margins and at its bottom. Using cotton, create also the Santa's beard.

Christmas ornament crafts based on candles are also very popular and easy to pursue. With a simple thick white candle you can create a Santa, a Snowman or the Rudolph reindeer. Carve the eyes, nose and mouth or draw them, then tailor a hat and a scarf to accessorize the character you have created. You can create an entire Christmas scene out of a few candles or a choir of carols singers. For the latter case, you have to humanize the characters just like in the case of a Santa Claus or a Snowman, and add on the top of the candles a knitted cap or one made of felt. To point out more clearly that you have a choir of singers there, glue on the candles small pieces of papers folded in two, where you have written some musical notes.

And here is a very original idea you can use for your Christmas ornament crafts. As Christmas is a season when we treat ourselves with all kinds of goodies, why not use them on decorating purposes as well. If you plan to have coconuts at your Christmas dinner, turn them on Christmas decorations by sprinkling glittering powder on them and embellishing them with bows and ribbons. After you have eaten a coconut, you can still use the shell for your crafting project. Take one half of the shell and turn it into a basket by attaching a wire handler on it. Then fill the basket with candies, chocolate or with decorative items like pine cones, tree sprigs and acorns.

Hopefully, these ideas of Christmas ornament crafts will help you not only spend a great Christmas but also have fun during the preparations for the Holiday itself.
