Rock Collecting Trip

Rock collecting wasn't part of the plan. Neither was arrowhead hunting. Then we met Felix. He was a Mayan Indian, he told us, whose family had migrated from Mexico. Now he was living in an old RV. He was there to enjoy the hot springs, like us. The Arizona desert has more than just hot springs hidden in it though.

We shared meals and campfires for a week, and then he took my wife Ana and I into the desert to show us ancient metates (grain-grinding stones) and arrowheads. In addition, we found Apache Tears, Fire Agate, and hundreds of other beautiful rocks of every type. They were just...

Be Careful.. Snakes

RECENTLY, while workers were excavating an ancient walled city in Manila, they found an old cannon still loaded with live ammunition. Suddenly, the workers scrambled out of the excavation. Because of the cannon? No, because they had found a pile of snakes eggs, and parent snakes sometimes stay near their eggs until they hatch. The cry went out, Be careful, snakes! The workers feared the snakes more than the loaded cannon.

Unless you live in Ireland, New Zealand, some isolated islands, or areas of permanently frozen subsoil like the Arctic, there are snakes in your country. But the greatest...

Arts And Crafts is a Great Way to Relax

If you are looking for a way to enjoy a little relaxation or perhaps to spend a couple of hours with girlfriends, think about making arts and crafts a part of your life. It is true that arts and crafts is a broad, non-specific thing. But that is the beauty of it. Basically, taking time to explore new arts and crafts means you get to be creative and have fun in any way you want to.

One of the best ways to learn new arts and crafts is to sign up for a class. There are probably several arts and crafts shops in your local area that offer classes on a whole variety of topics. Are you interested...

Metal Casting Is a Great Hobby

<img src="http://www.hobbything.com/assets/_images/_story/thumbs/264.jpg" align="left" />I have been casting metal for about 10 years, more or less. I got started because I wanted to make an Anchor for our fish tank. I never have gotten around to doing that project!

I like to make things myself to get things cheaper and (hopefully) better quality. I started out making a furnace from a freon canister. I built it so that it could use charcoal right away and could also use propane when I got my burner built. Charcoal is the quick way to get started. All you need is a blower, (a lot of people use a vacuum cleaner), and the furnace. It doesn't take much air to get nice and hot...

How To Tell If Someone Is Lying

How to tell if someone is lying? Carefully. All methods of lie-detecting, including polygraph machines, are regularly fooled or used improperly, resulting in mistakes. There are a few good ways described here, but try to confirm the truth by other means as well, such as confession or investigation of the facts.

You should compare behavior in the person under suspicion to their "base" behavior, if possible. In other words, if they always have shifty eyes, then this trait can't be considered as an indication of lying. On the other hand, if they are normally very calm under pressure, but start...
