When did the word toast, as in drink for something, came to France?

Toasts came to France after revolution. The word and the tradition came actually from the English. In England, if they drunk for someone’s health they would put a small piece of fried bread in every beer mug. This fried bread as we all know is called – toast. The bread itself gets the person who downs the drink in one go.

And for the toasts themselves here is one I particularly like:
England, around 19th century, dinner table for many guests. As usual the guests are delivering beautifully mastered speeches and toasts. So one of the guests stands up and says: “MESSRS, I am drinking this for the beautiful side of humanity (for female) on both of the halves of the world”. “And me – answered another guest, who looked on things more realistically, - I drink for both of the halves of the beautiful side of humanity.”
